Your Support Creates Life-Changing Moments!
“Joining school is the happiest moment of my life. I’m so grateful that my dream is now on track.” — Catherine, 16.
In the slums of Kampala, many girls face unimaginable challenges. For Catherine, returning to school after COVID-19 seemed impossible.
For four years, she worked as a street vendor, enduring constant harassment and danger. Overwhelmed by an attempted assault, she sought refuge with a group of women under a tree. That’s where one of our Community Mentors found her, listened to her story, and connected her with our programme.
Today, Catherine is back in school, pursuing her dream of becoming a teacher.
Why Education Matters
Childhood should be filled with dreams, laughter, and possibilities. Yet for many girls in Kampala, poverty, fear, and trauma overshadow their lives, leaving little room for hope.
Awamu’s work, in partnership with grassroots NGO Tusitukirewamu, ensures that education becomes a lifeline for girls.
