This week, you can make twice the difference for girls in Kampala.
From Wednesday 8 October to Wednesday 15 October, all donations to Awamu’s Shelter Appeal will be doubled through the Big Give Women & Girls Fund — up to £5,000 in matched funding.
Together with our long-term grassroots partner Tusitukirewamu, we run the only girls’ shelter still open in this part of Kampala — a lifeline for girls escaping violence, abuse or trafficking.
Every day, our team receives calls about girls who need urgent protection.
Sometimes the team lay out mats on the floor because sending a child back into danger is unthinkable.
But with your help, we can expand and welcome more girls into safety.
How your doubled gift could help
£25 → £50: Blankets, sheets and clothes for a girl arriving with nothing
£40 → £80: Food, gas and electricity for nourishing meals
£160 → £320: A bunk bed so two more girls can sleep safely
£750 → £1,500: Accessibility improvements – a wheelchair and ramps so every girl can move freely
