"It starts by beliEving in yourself"

Some great news and words of wisdom to celebrate International Womens Day.

Nansimbi, 17, has achieved the highest S4 grades in her school. She explains what drives her to succeed "I joined Awamu programme and returned to Senior 1 when I was 13. What I see at schools is that there is a big challenge - girls don't have the confidence in themselves. Boy are ahead in class and this is what expected.

I look at what was happening in school and thought if these boys can make it, even me a girl can make it.

I want to be a doctor as here where I live we have so few doctors and they charge so much. People can't afford and as a result they all suffer. Awamu has a free clinic here for girls in the office and the doctor is a woman. I take that as inspiration and proof that I can get there.

My teacher who is my academic mentor says "Nothing is difficult, unless you make it difficult." It starts by believing in yourself. If you believe, you can have the drive to succeed.

I wake up at 6am everyday to study - this is my quiet time where I can focus on my studies before school.

I believe in myself and I believe in my friends even when they doubt themselves.

I tell them that its starts with what is their hearts. They must believe and they must take action. You can't wait for things to happen for you."

We salute your drive and ambition Nansimbi. Thank you for being an inspiration yourself.
