The Big Give: double your donation

YOUR DONATION WILL BE DOUBLED!

We are fundraising for a new, urgent life saving project. Our 'Safe Haven' will be a place of protection for girls who have experinced sexual violence. It will give girls life-saving access to healthcare and the skills they need to earn a living.

We've secure funding for large parts of the project but we need to raise another £18,836 to get it off the ground.

We are taking part in the Big Give (the UKs largest matched giving campaign). Our pledgers and The Coles-Medlock Foundation have give us £9,418 in matched funding.

This means any donation you make via our Big Give Appeal between November 29th and December 6th will be doubled!

One donation - twice the impact!

The Nansamba Safe Haven

The pandemic has caused more girls in the slums to experience violence, drop out of school & be pushed further into poverty.

Our new ‘Nansamba Safe Haven’* project will give girls life-saving access to healthcare and the skills they need to earn a living.

Situation

"I feel like my life has been stolen from me. People say once a girl has had a baby she can’t go back to school." Diana, 13, was raped in her home during lockdown. Shockingly, 60% of girls living in the slums of Kampala experienced sexual violence during lockdown & the number of child mothers soared. Girls struggle to return to school & miss out on life-saving pre & post-natal care due to stigma, lack of childcare or money. This is forcing girls into further unsafe situations including sex work.

Solution

Our experienced community based team provide vulnerable girls with ‘girl-friendly’ healthcare including emergency post-rape care, trauma recovery, safe motherhood services & sexual reproductive health. Girls are then invited to join our skills training programme - covering tailoring & business management (with childcare provided). Our team supports them to secure employment or start a business, helping them to earn a sustainable income & support themselves and their families.

Campaign Aims

  • 800 vulnerable girls will access life-saving service through our 'girl-friendly’ health service. Including sexual/reproductive health advice & emergency care, contraception, family planning, pre & post-natal care & HIV services

  • Provide 120 vulnerable girls (child mothers & survivors of sexual violence) with our life changing economic empowerment training.

Impact

Through our life-saving ‘girl-friendly’ healthcare, including sexual & reproductive health support & counselling young mothers, survivors of sexual violence & other vulnerable girls will be better able to avoid early pregnancy & to refuse unwanted sex.

Girls be supported to form strong support networks with their peers & be fully equipped with skills to secure employment or start a business, enabling them to support themselves & their families & take back control of their lives.

*This project is named in honour of Nansamba Kyegombe who has been inspirational in getting this project off the ground. Gifts in her memory are restoring hope and giving girls the courage to strive for their dreams.
