“We remind each other why we started.”

Across Kawempe, exam season has arrived — and the energy is contagious.

In classrooms, libraries and dorms, girls huddle together in small study circles. They share notes. Quiz each other. Whisper formulas and encouragement. And when one starts to flag, another leans over with a grin and says:

“We remind each other why we started,” says Tracy, a Senior 4 candidate who dreams of becoming a doctor.
“We talk about our goals and what we want for our lives. That gives me the strength to keep studying.”

They’re revising side by side — pushing through long days and late nights with determination, hope and a lot of shared snacks.

“We’ve become sisters, mentors and friends,” adds Aminah, who’s preparing for her final exams.
“When one of us feels tired, another reminds her what she’s working for.”

Many of these girls have grown up together through Awamu and our grassroots partner Tusitukirewamu. They’ve supported each other through catch-up classes, Hope Clubs and peer mentoring — building confidence, friendships and leadership that last far beyond the classroom.

This year, twenty girls from our programme are sitting their Senior 4 and Senior 6 exams — a huge milestone made possible by their determination, their sisterhood and the support of people like you.

“After missing years of school because of lockdown and everything that happened, I can say I’ve had the best education and support” shares Sandra, now 20.
“I’ve caught up, I’m confident again — and I’m ready for whatever comes next.”

Because their success is about much more than exams.
It’s about young women who believe in themselves and each other — and a community that refuses to give up on their potential.

Looking ahead

As we celebrate these achievements and wish them success in thei exams, we’re also getting ready for our Big Give Campaign this December.

This year, something amazing has happened: an anonymous donor (we honestly don’t know who!) has offered to double every donation between 2–9 December. All we know is that they trust us believe in the power of girls education.

It means every pound you give will go twice as far, helping us reach more girls with holistic support: education, mentoring, healthcare and caregiver empowerment.

💛 Together, we can double her chance to learn — and celebrate many more milestones like this one.

Thank you.
Your belief makes moments like these possible — not through grand gestures, but through everyday acts of care, community and solidarity.

Thank you for standing with the girls in Kawempe as they shape their own futures.

👉 Mark your calendar: 2–9 December
Stay tuned to see how your support can help double her chance to learn.
